MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE PROGRAM
An Evidence-Based Approach to Traditional Chinese Medicine
Program Chair: Dr. K. Trinh, MD, PhD, FRSS, FRCP Edin, Diploma in Sport Medicine

Program Objectives

To learn safe acupuncture needling techniques and the most current and compelling scientific evidence about acupuncture.

The McMaster University Medical Acupuncture Program: An Evidence-Based Approach to Traditional Chinese Medicine is conducted at the  McMaster University Main Street Campus. The first class was enrolled in 1999 and attended in 2000. This program utilizes the most current evidence through clinical trials and systematic reviews for point selections and applications. Point location is taught in small group demonstration and practice. The more advanced concepts of the course will be specialized in sports medicine or Traditional Chinese Medicine. The acupuncture courses are designed specifically for the needs of Health Care Professionals who are seeking to advance their scientific evidence-based knowledge of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Our program fulfils the training requirements or is recognized by the Acupuncture Council of Ontario, Alberta College and Associations of Chiropractors, American Board of Medical Acupuncture, British Medical Acupuncture Society, Canadian Academy of Medical Acupuncture, College of Chiropractors of Ontario, College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, College of Physiotherapists of British Columbia and the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. The program is also recognized by the Worker Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) of Ontario and many other major insurance companies for payments to Acupuncture Providers.

The U.K. NICE Guideline for treatment of back pain recommends patients to have access to acupuncture treatments due to the existing evidence.
